For New Year’s Eve I spent the day at the Royal Botanical Gardens with thousands of other people anxiously awaiting the fireworks at midnight. I arrived there at 11:30 am and got a great spot right on the hill. I had a picnic lunch all packed, and layed out in the sun all day until the events kicked off at 8 pm. At 8, some fireworks went off, and the bottom of the bridge began to glow as a sign of appreciation and respect to the Aboriginal people of Australia.
At about 9 pm, they had the “kids” fireworks, which blew me away…these fireworks lasted about 15 minutes. They went off on the bridge, on both sides of the harbour, and off the roofs of the roofs of the skyline’s buildings. It was amazing…and this was ONLY the pre-show! I could not wait to see what the main event would be like at midnight!
With only a few hours left, I met some friends from England, and passed the time with them drinking champagne and getting really excited for the clock to strike twelve.
At about 11:50 pm, the fireworks started and continued just after midnight. The fireworks show was the most amazing, breathtaking, and spectacular thing I have ever seen in my life. The dark night sky literally lit up with fireworks…all over! It was a very special New Year’s and a memory that I will never forget…Sydney really knows how to put on a show!
I hope that everyone had an amazing New Year’s and I wish that this year brings everyone nothing but love, happiness and health!!!
